Students of the Month. The Lions Club recognizes two high school students every month, during the school term.
Lucas Box, a senior at Beaver Falls High School, was student of the month for February. Box achieved high honors throughout high school, is a 3-year member of the National Honor Society, the Academic Excellence League, and the Gifted and Talented Enrichment program. He was also a 4 year participant in the marching band, lettered and was snare drum section leader as a senior. He was also a member of the concert band, chorus, and the pit orchestra for district musicals. His volunteer work includes the Big Beaver Falls Education Foundation’s Tiger Trot, the Salvation Army Angel Tree Secret Santa and working at the fish fries and night at the races at St. Monica Catholic Parish. Box is a son of Ted and Monica Box of Big Beaver. He plans to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and major in avionics electronics.
Janiya Waldron, a senior at Beaver Falls High School, was named student of the month for February. Waldron, who achieved honors throughout high school, was class treasurer as a junior and senior. She is vice president of the Art Club, and participates in Future Business Leaders of America, the Varsity, Leo and SAAD clubs. She is also lettered in varsity cheerleading. Her volunteer work includes Lil’ Tigers cheer coach, Trails Ministries and new student orientation. Waldron is a daughter of Ryann Waldron of Beaver Falls. She plans to attend Youngstown State University and major in nursing.
Blake Fillinger, son of Claudette Fillinger. Blake plans on attending Mount Aloysius College majoring in Psychology. Activities included Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Tennis, Varsity Bowling, Varsity Track, Varsity Club, BFHS Studio Team, Bible Club, and Leo Club. Blake attained Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. Volunteer work included BFHS Leo Club Breakfast with Santa and BFHS Semi-Formal. Blake’s past employment included Giuseppe’s and current employment at Pitt Race. Blake is a member of the Chippewa Alliance Church Youth & Men’s Group and Suncrest Summer Camp.
Deshawna Gandy, daughter of Patty Kirkland. Deshawna plans on attending college and majoring in construction. Activities include Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track, Varsity Club, and Club Hope. Deshawna has attained Honor Roll, Academic Excellence League, and Lion’s Club Student of the Month. Deshawna’s employment included Sheetz.
Cameron Pagley, son of Scott and Liz Pagley. Cameron plans on attending Duquesne and majoring in Biochemistry. Activities included GATE Program, Student Council, Spanish Club, Health Careers Club, Science Club, Friends of Rachel Club, STEM Club, and Unified Youth Club. Cameron attained High Honor Roll, National Honor Society, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, The Challenge Program Award, and Academic Excellence League. Volunteer work included BBFSD School Board Student Rep, NHS Comfort Care Packages, CCAE Volunteer, and Central Elementary Volunteer.
Allyson Greco daughter of Heather and Shad Greco. Allyson plans on attending College/Technical School: Youngstown State University. Activities at B.F. High School include Volleyball (Captain), Bowling and Varsity Club. Allyson is a High Honors student as well a member of the National Honor Society, High Honor Roll, Academic Excellence League, and various bowling competitions. Volunteer work included Walk to End Alzheimer, Bowling Fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association and helped make cookies for the Chippewa Twp. Polices and Fire Department thru the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
Christopher Bannon, the son of Faith and Jason Bannon. Chris plans on attending College/Trade School: Penn State University and will major in Mechanical Engineering. Activities included Gate Program, Leo Club, Game Theory & Strategy Club, Student Government, Knit & Crochet, Track & Field as well as appeared in three District Musicals. Chris attained High Honor Roll, was a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Excellence League and Lion’s Club Student of the Month. Volunteer work included Lion’s Club Easter Bunny Breakfast, Local Soup Kitchens and the Jeff Novak Benefit Dinner.
Olivia Hawthorne daughter of Paul & Jennifer Hawthorne. Olivia plans on attending Edinboro University majoring in Social Work. Activities at B.F. High School include Varsity Cheering, Varsity Club, Club Hope, Anti-Drug Summit, FBLA, Unified Youth Club, Friends of Rachel, Leo Club Science Club, S.A.D.D., Usher’s Club, Youth Ambassadors, and BFHS Yearbook. Olivia attained High Honor Roll and was a member of the National Honor Society. Volunteer work included Beaver County Special Olympics, BF Lion’s Club Bingo, Steve Necaster Fundraiser, YAP Planning, and BFHS Leo Club Breakfast with Santa.
